Enamelled Earrings - Rustic Enamelled Dangle Earrings with Recycled Silver Ear Wires
This collection was inspired by the corrosion of man-made industrial structures on the coast of Scotland. I hand pierce each shape from copper offcuts. They are then coated in multiple layers of vitreous enamel and repeatedly fired in a kiln heated to 820C. The recycled silver ear wires are hand formed and finished by oxidising. The back of the earrings are enamelled in a simpler mostly white colour. The earring have a 4 cm drop and are about 1.25 cm wide.
I handcraft each piece of jewellery in my studio in Glasgow. Each item is individually hand-pierced with a small jewellers saw and then enamelled, so variations will occur. These variations add a unique quality, so that every piece of jewellery is as original as you are.
I work hard to have a studio and jewellery making practice that is eco-friendly and ethical. I use recycled and reclaimed materials in my jewellery, and the enamel that i use is a more environmentally friendly lead free enamel. I also limit the use of chemicals in my studio and use non-toxic alternatives when possible. All of my packaging, from the jewellery boxes to the packing material, is also made from recycled materials.
